The James Crespinel Studio Exhibition of Abstract Paintings by Jay Steensma2312 Second Avenue, SeattleOpened Good Friday April 9, 2004 |
||||
Jay Steensma was known primarily for his paintings, drawings and prints in a Northwest Traditional style, while his abstract work has had little exposure. This show highlighted the abstract works created over a nine year period, starting in 1985 when he once again began painting earnestly on the encouragement of local art critic Matthew Kangas. Among many exhibitions of his work, this show was a major exhibition, proving him to be one of the major Northwest painters. Few of these works have been exhibited, and the show is further evidence of the special offerings Jay contributed to The Northwest School. This show was curated by Douglas Barnhart, Ree Brown, Gordon Delgaty, Dan Eskenazi, Mike Hickey, and Mark Mueller, in the hopes of furthering an understanding and appreciation of an even larger genre of Jay Steensma’s work. This exhibition ran for two weekends: April 9, 10, & 11, 2004, and April 16, 17, & 18, 2004 | ||||
